execon, KEX, and 17 industrial partners kickoff study on Industry 4.0 in process manufacturing

On Nov. 10, 2016 execon partners and KEX AG, a spin-off from the Fraunhofer Institute of Production Technology in Aachen kicked-off the consortium study “digitization in process manufacturing”, in the presence of representatives of the 17 companies which participate to the study. This joint endeavor aims at mapping the last technology trends in the area of Industrie 4.0, selecting those applications that promise the highest benefit to companies from the process industry, and develop concrete applications and business cases for implementation, together with the participating firms. Following an inspiring key note address on what Industry 4.0 will mean for the industrial world each participating company had the opportunity to share what they expect from this project which will take until Nov. 2017 for completion, while execon and KEX illustrated approach, process and targeted outcome. Alignment meetings are planned for January 2017; the next review meeting will take in early March 2017. In between several workgroups of experts from execon and KEX and their research partners – the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology (IPT), the FIR at RWTH Aachen and the Laboratory for Machine Tools and Production Engineering WZL of the RWTH Aachen,  will investigate and consolidate “what´s new“ in terms of technology in the areas of advanced sensors, big data and predictive analytics, connectivity, and augmented reality to develop smart processes, smart assets, agile supply chains and new business models.
